Mothers’ and Fathers’ Labor Force Participation Rates Remain Steady in 2025

In 2025, the labor force participation rate for mothers with children under 18 was 73.9%, and for fathers it was 93.7%, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Both rates were little changed from the previous year. Among mothers, those with children under 6 had a participation rate of 68.0%, compared with 78.2% for mothers whose youngest child was 6 to 17 years old. For fathers, the participation rate was higher for parents with younger children: 95.3% for those with children under 6 versus 92.5% for those with children 6 to 17. The data come from the Current Population Survey and apply to parents living with their children under 18.
