Statistics Canada Launches Rural Data Viewer with Expanded Rural Analytics

Statistics Canada has released the Rural Data Viewer, a platform that consolidates data from several national sources to deliver detailed statistics for rural and small‑town communities. The viewer incorporates ProximityRST measures that show the presence of services and amenities within set distance thresholds of reference points. It also offers small‑area estimates of remote‑working opportunities derived from the Canadian Survey on Business Conditions, the Business Register, and the 2021 Census of Population. In addition, the database includes a custom Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy (CEWS) dataset built from CRA micro‑data and other administrative records. Employment and unemployment rates are drawn from table 14‑10‑0457 and are updated monthly without season‑adjustment. The tool aims to provide local policymakers and researchers with up‑to‑date, granular information on rural economic activity.
