ESMA Launches Harmonised Funds Reporting and Transaction Simplification Reports

European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) released two reports on 4 May 2026 outlining steps to simplify EU reporting for investment funds and financial transactions. The first, the Final Report on the Integrated Collection of Funds’ Data, proposes moving from fragmented national reporting to a single EU‑wide template. The approach includes a hybrid model where data collection remains national but validation, storage and analytics will be centralised, aiming to reduce duplication and improve data consistency. The second, the Interim Report on a Comprehensive Approach for Transaction Reporting, summarises feedback from more than 100 respondents, highlighting overlapping requirements and fragmented channels as key cost drivers. ESMA will hold an open hearing on 28 May and plan to publish final recommendations by mid‑year.
