EU 2025 Poverty Risk Higher for Households with Dependent Children

According to Eurostat’s latest 2025 household survey, 22.1% of people living in households with dependent children are at risk of poverty or social exclusion, compared with 19.8% of those without children. The risk is highest in Spain (29.9%), followed by Romania (29.4%) and Bulgaria (29.1%). In contrast, Slovenia (10.4%), the Netherlands (11.7%) and Cyprus (12.2%) have the lowest rates. The study found that in 16 of 27 EU member states the risk for families with children exceeds that for families without. The data come from the EU‑SILC survey and illustrate persistent disparities in living conditions across Europe. These findings highlight regional inequalities and may inform future social policy initiatives aimed at reducing poverty among families with children across the Union.
