ISS Launches Questionnaire to Combat Food‑Related Fake News

On May 6, 2026, Italy’s National Institute of Health (ISS) announced a new questionnaire titled “Bufale nel piatto: riconoscere le fake news sull’alimentazione.” The five‑question test, developed by the ISS’s Department of Food, Nutrition and Health, draws on the most common false claims online about gluten, sugar, and other food topics. Director Laura Rossi said the goal is not only to assess knowledge but also to encourage a more critical attitude toward information shared on the web. Participants are also asked to suggest a topic they would like to explore further. Responses will be collected until June 3 and discussed at the conference “Fake news, fears and trust: food safety and nutrition in the infodemic” scheduled for June 5, both at ISS and online.
