Rev Ian Grainger Appointed Honorary Canon of Carlisle Cathedral

Rev Ian Grainger was named an honorary Canon of Carlisle Cathedral during a service led by Bishop Rob Saner‑Haigh on 5 May 2026, recognising more than thirty years of ministry and chaplaincy work within the Diocese. He was ordained in 1992 and has served as an Army Reserve chaplain, lead chaplain for Cumbria Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Service, and, since June 2023, as the Civil Nuclear Constabulary Force Chaplain, offering confidential pastoral support in a high‑pressure policing environment. Grainger said becoming an honorary Canon is a real honour and that the recognition means a great deal to him, after a career that has grown up and served his entire ministry within the diocese. Family, friends and members of his congregations in Seaton and Camerton attended the service to support him.
