FRA Presents Report on Violence Against Disabled Persons in Irish Institutions

The European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) presented its report on violence against people with disabilities in institutions to Ireland’s Joint Committee on Disability Matters on 6 May. The dedicated session addressed freedom from exploitation, violence and abuse for people with disabilities. FRA delivered the report’s findings and opinions to the committee. Irish Franet partners and the Chief Commissioner of the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission also attended, adding national expertise and complementing FRA’s research. The presentation was part of FRA’s ongoing work to investigate and report on fundamental rights violations affecting vulnerable groups. The report highlighted gaps in institutional safeguards and called for stronger oversight.
