2025 Retail Theft Records Hit 77,600 Cases in Finland

Finland’s Statistics Centre reported that in 2025 a record 77,600 retail theft incidents were reported, a 23 % rise from the previous year. Of these, 67 % were investigated. The number of suspects whose cases were investigated rose to 57,300, a 23.5 % increase. The largest group of suspects was aged 30–39, with 16,900 individuals, up 22.5 % from 2024. Suspects under 15 years old numbered 3,900, up 9.6 %. About 60 % of suspects were aged 25–49, and 30 % were female. Foreign‑background suspects made up 12 % of the total. Employment and education data showed 35 % of suspects were unemployed, 57 % were outside the labour market, and roughly 74 % had no post‑basic education.
