Canada’s Private Sector Ownership Distribution Q2 2026

Statistics Canada released data on the distribution of majority ownership among private sector businesses in Canada for the second quarter of 2026. The report shows 1,023,359 businesses were majority‑owned, representing 100% of the private sector count. Women held majority ownership in 199,221 businesses, accounting for 19.5%. First Nations, Métis or Inuit majority ownership appeared in 33,712 businesses, 3.3% of the total. Immigrants to Canada were majority owners in 227,024 businesses, 22.2%. Other groups included persons with disabilities (23,064 businesses, 2.3%), 2SLGBTQ+ people (20,626 businesses, 2.0%) and visible minorities (153,536 businesses, 15.0%).
