EU auditors to publish report on Western Balkan transport funding

European Court of Auditors will release a report on June 9 that examines the effectiveness of the EU’s Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF) in developing transport infrastructure. Between 2015 and June 2025 the Commission supplied €527 million, the largest contributor, to transport projects in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia. The audit looked at project selection, implementation monitoring, and reporting across a sample of dozen projects in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, North Macedonia and Serbia. The Commission, the European Investment Bank, the EBRD and the World Bank were assessed for their roles in funding and overseeing the projects. Findings are expected to guide improvements to the WBIF and similar blending mechanisms, and will be discussed at a web‑streamed conference on June 30.
