Women now account for 53% of EU science and technology workforce

Women now make up 53% of science and technology workers in the European Union, up 0.5 percentage points from 2024. In 2025, 81.6 million people aged 15‑74 were employed in science and technology, a 1.8 % increase over 2024 and a 25.3 % rise over the past decade. Of those, 42.8 million (52.5 %) were women, mainly in service activities. The share of women in science and technology increased by 2.3 % from 2024 and by 27.9 % from 2015, adding more than 9.3 million women to the sector in ten years.
