Criminal Court Outcomes for Black Accused Persons in Canada, 2022/2023

Statistics Canada released the latest data on criminal court outcomes for Black accused persons in adult courts across the country. For the 2022/2023 fiscal year, there were 12,650 total decisions involving Black accused individuals. Of these, 4,220 cases, representing 33 percent, resulted in guilty verdicts. Acquittals numbered 150, while 8,110 cases were stayed or withdrawn. A further 160 decisions were categorized as other outcomes. The figures reflect the distribution of court decisions over the period and are part of an annual series tracking trends in criminal justice for Black Canadians. These numbers are compiled annually to support policy analysis and public transparency.
