European Commission Approves Arla’s Acquisition of DMK and DOC

European Commission has unconditionally approved the acquisition of DMK and DOC by Arla Foods, concluding the deal poses no competition risks in the European Economic Area. The Commission examined raw‑milk procurement in Germany and dairy product supply in Denmark, Finland, Germany, the Netherlands and Sweden. It found that Arla’s cooperative model would not reduce farmers’ prices and that sufficient competition remains in private‑label product and whey‑ingredient markets. Limited risk of bundled deals was also noted. The transaction was notified on 17 April 2026 and cleared within the standard 25‑working‑day review period. DMK, a German dairy cooperative with about 4,000 farmers, and DOC, a Dutch cooperative with around 600 farmers, supply raw milk to DMK GmbH, which processes it into cheese, ice cream and dairy ingredients. Arla, headquartered in Denmark, operates across Denmark, Sweden, the UK, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands.
