The European Court of Auditors (ECA) marked its 50th anniversary in 2025, detailing a year of audit work and organisational growth. The institution, with nearly 970 staff from all EU nationalities, added 101 new employees and 79 trainees. In 2025, the ECA published 31 audit reports covering areas such as the microchips industry, medicine shortages, military mobility, VAT fraud on imports, and cooperation between anti‑fraud bodies. Audit teams spent almost 4,500 workdays gathering evidence and presented findings to EU institutions and member‑state authorities on more than 600 occasions. Surveys indicated that most respondents found the reports useful. The ECA also reviewed the European Commission’s budget proposals for 2028‑2034 and adopted a new strategy for 2026‑2030, focusing on competitiveness, strategic autonomy and defence.
