Former M&S Chief Executive Marc Bolland appointed to drive UK Youth Guarantee

The Department for Work and Pensions has appointed former Marks & Spencer chief executive Marc Bolland as Lead Non‑Executive Director to help deliver the government’s Youth Guarantee. In the role Bolland will convene CEOs across sectors, bringing business expertise into policy delivery and advising Secretary Pat McFadden on the Alan Milburn review. Bolland, who led Marks & Spencer, Morrisons and Heineken, is also founder chairman of the charity Movement to Work, which has helped more than 200,000 young people into work. His appointment follows the Milburn interim report, which warned that NEET numbers could rise to 1 in 6 young people within five years. The government will invest £2.5 billion to support 1 million young people, including those with disabilities, in employment, training or education.
