Philosopher Edgar Morin Dies at 104

Philosopher, writer, and sociologist Edgar Morin died on 30 May 2026 at the age of 104. Born Edgar Nahoum on 8 July 1921 in Paris, he was the only son of a Sephardic merchant from Salonica. Morin studied law in Toulouse during the occupation, joined the communist resistance in Lyon, and later entered the CNRS in 1950. He published influential works such as *L’Homme et la mort*, *La Méthode* (six volumes, 1977–2006), and *L’An I de l’ère écologique*. His writings explored complex thought, ecology, and social change. The President and First Lady offered condolences to his family, colleagues and readers, and praised his lifelong commitment to freedom, fraternity and ecological awareness.
