ECHA Launches Collaborative Platform to Promote Animal‑Free Chemical Testing

ECHA has announced the creation of a Collaborative Platform on Alternatives to Animal Testing to support the European Commission’s roadmap for phasing out animal testing in chemical safety assessments. The platform, set to launch in June 2026, will bring together regulators, industry, academia and civil society to share knowledge, discuss validation and standardisation, and tackle technical challenges. Its first meeting will be held in Helsinki on 11‑12 June. ECHA will continue its work on new approach methodologies and related tools to replace and reduce animal testing, in line with EU policy. The initiative follows a European Citizens’ Initiative that gathered over 1.2 million signatures and aims to accelerate the adoption of animal‑free test methods across EU legislation.
