The Security Industry Authority has gained prescribed person status under the Public Interest Disclosure Act, providing whistleblower protection for workers in the private security sector. The status was granted following a Statutory Instrument laid before Parliament on 1 May 2026. It expands legal protection for employees who report wrongdoing—including unlicensed security, suspected fraud, criminal offences, non‑compliance and public safety risks—to the SIA. Workers may disclose anonymously or confidentially. The SIA has issued new guidance on how to make disclosures and has consulted with whistleblowing charity Protect. Chief Executive Michelle Russell said the change will help create a safer environment and strengthen public trust. Founder of City Security Council David Ward praised the move. The SIA’s status will later include Martyn’s Law when that law is enacted in Spring 2027.
