ECHA Launches New Enforcement Projects on Chemical Restrictions

ECHA Enforcement Forum has approved several new EU‑wide enforcement projects to improve compliance with chemical restrictions. The first project (REF‑16) will target products and mixtures that must meet limits on hazardous substances under EU chemicals legislation, with inspections set for 2028 and a report due in 2029. A pilot on tattoo inks and permanent makeup (planned for 2027) will assess hazardous‑substance limits and labeling. The Forum also launched a Rapid Enforcement Initiative (REI‑1) to address non‑updated registration dossiers. In biocides, the BPRS will conduct an enforcement project (BEF‑4) on online sales and cross‑border cooperation, with inspections in 2028 and a report in 2029. Henrik Hedlund was re‑elected chair of the Forum, with new vice‑chairs named.
