Federal Science Expenditures in National Capital Region 2024/2025

Statistics Canada released its most recent data on federal intramural science and technology spending for the National Capital Region (NCR) for the 2024/2025 fiscal year. The total expenditure for the NCR was 4.533 billion dollars, up from 4.320 billion in 2023/2024. Of this total, 1.592 billion was directed to intramural research and development activities, while 2.941 billion was allocated to other intramural scientific activities. Breaking the region into its two provinces, Ontario reported 3.937 billion in total spending—1.465 billion for research and development and 2.471 billion for related activities—whereas Quebec reported 597 million dollars, including 127 million for research and development and 470 million for related activities. The figures illustrate the continued investment in science and technology within the capital area.
