HMRC Reminds Self‑Assessment Taxpayers of July Payments Deadline

HM Revenue & Customs has reminded Self‑Assessment taxpayers that the second payments‑on‑account deadline for the 2025‑26 tax year is 31 July. Taxpayers can pay via the HMRC app, which has handled more than 110 000 payments since April, or set up monthly or weekly payment plans that count toward the next tax bill. Payments on account are due at midnight on 31 January and 31 July, unless the last‑year tax owed was under £1 000 or more than 80 % was paid outside Self‑Assessment. From mid‑July 2026, about 300 000 returns will receive pre‑populated child‑benefit details to ease the High‑Income Child Benefit Charge. Sole traders and landlords over £50 000 must use Making Tax Digital and submit quarterly updates, first deadline 7 August 2026. New HMRC digital users are now asked to create a GOV.UK One Login, while existing customers continue using Government Gateway.
