Statistics Sweden (SCB) released data showing that in 2025 employers reported a total labour shortage of 61,400 people. Half of this shortage – 33,900 positions – was concentrated in the three metropolitan counties of Stockholm, Västra Götaland, and Skåne. In these counties employers lacked 15,200 workers in Stockholm, 8,800 in Västra Götaland and 7,700 in Skåne. The remaining 27,500 positions were spread across the other 17 counties. The figures, based on a sample of about 23,500 workplaces, reflect jobs that could not be performed despite available hiring opportunities. SCB will add proportionate data in future releases. The data were collected through surveys during the first and third quarters of 2025, with response rates of 84 % and 87 % respectively.
