EU Regions Sign Memorandum with Swiss Cantons

On 2 July 2026, the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) and the Conference of Cantonal Governments of Switzerland (CCG) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) during the CoR plenary. The MoU creates a structured platform for high‑level dialogue between EU regions and Swiss cantons, building on a CoR opinion on strengthening the territorial dimension of the EU‑Switzerland relationship. It is based on shared values of democracy, rule of law, federalism, decentralisation and subsidiarity. The agreement outlines cooperation areas such as multilevel governance, cross‑border labour, regional development, transport, innovation, food safety, civil protection, environment and energy. Annual meetings will alternate between the EU and Switzerland, and the parties will issue joint recommendations and statements and share best practices.
