Spanish Household Water Use Stays Flat, Unit Cost Rises in 2024

Spanish households used an average of 128 litres of water per person per day in 2024, unchanged from 2022, according to the National Institute of Statistics. The unit price of water rose 5.2 %, reaching €2.02 per cubic metre. In the same year, the total volume of water registered and supplied to users increased by 3.3 % to 2,284 hectometres for households, while the economic sector saw a 12.9 % rise to 735 hectometres. Municipal and other consumers recorded an 8.7 % drop to 264 hectometres. The unit cost of supply fell 6 % to €1.09, whereas the unit cost of treatment climbed 22.4 % to €0.93.
