On 9–12 June, the European Court of Auditors hosted its sixth Summer School at the University of Malta. The event brought together more than 120 auditors, policymakers, academics and practitioners from EU member and candidate states to discuss pressing EU issues. Sessions covered the impact of geopolitical and macroeconomic volatility, emerging technologies, defence and security spending, and the changing architecture of EU budgetary governance. Eight speakers and eight moderated panels featured over 30 participants from European institutions, the United Nations, Maltese politicians, bankers, lawyers, and the Holy See. The school emphasized the need for sound financial governance and effective public audit in a period of uncertainty, and highlighted performance audit as a tool for learning and improvement.
