ECB reports stable corporate borrowing rates, slight rise in household home‑purchase rates

Euro area bank interest rates for May 2026 show little change for corporate borrowers but a modest rise for household home‑purchase loans, the European Central Bank (ECB) said on 3 July. The composite cost‑of‑borrowing indicator for new loans to non‑financial corporations remained at 3.64 %, unchanged from April. For households, the indicator for new house‑purchase loans increased by four basis points to 3.48 %. Deposit rates also edged up: new deposits from corporations with a maturity of up to one year rose 4 bps to 2.04 %, while household deposits of the same tenor increased 5 bps to 1.96 %. Overnight deposit rates stayed essentially flat for both sectors. The ECB noted that changes in the composite figures reflect both interest‑rate and weight effects.
