Ibero‑America Approves Charter on Care and Support

On Friday in Avilés, ministers from Ibero‑America approved the Charter on Care and Support at the IV Ibero‑American Ministerial Conference on Social Affairs and Inclusive Development. The charter establishes a shared framework that recognises care as a right, a need, work and public good, and sets principles of universality, gender equality, inclusion, autonomy and shared responsibility. Leaders highlighted the need to strengthen social protection for caregivers and recipients, promote autonomous self‑care, and coordinate social security systems across the region. The document provides a roadmap for designing, strengthening and evaluating policies that respond to demographic and economic changes. It marks the beginning of a regional partnership to advance inclusive, fair and collaborative care systems.
