The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has announced leadership changes as Ivo Claassen retires. Melanie Carr, Head of the Stakeholders and Communication Division, will assume Deputy Executive Director duties from 1 August 2026, succeeding Claassen who steps down on 31 July 2026. Franck Fourès joins EMA on 1 September 2026 as Head of the Veterinary Medicines Division, bringing over 20 years of experience in veterinary public health regulation. Claassen, who joined EMA in 2018, contributed to the implementation of the 2019 Veterinary Medicinal Products Regulation. Carr will oversee IT security in addition to her existing responsibilities, including crisis management. Fourès previously served as Director of the French Agency for Veterinary Medicinal Products (ANMV) and was an alternate member of EMA’s Management Board.
