Bank of England Appoints New Enforcement Decision Making Committee Chairs

The Bank of England has appointed Nicholas Segal as Chair and Peter King as Deputy Chair of its Enforcement Decision Making Committee (EDMC), effective 1 August 2026. The EDMC handles contested enforcement cases under statutory regimes covering prudential regulation, financial market infrastructures, resolution, and other areas. Sir William Blair and Philip Marsden, previous chairs, stepped down after their terms expired on 31 July 2026. David Roberts, Chair of the Bank’s Court, welcomed the new appointments, noting their legal expertise would strengthen the committee. The EDMC, established in 2024, comprises members serving five-year terms, renewable once. Contested cases are resolved by a panel of three or more members after reviewing evidence and hearing representations.
