Sharp Increase in Robbery Suspects Under the Age of 15, Up by 136%: Statistics Finland

Statistics Finland has revealed concerning data regarding the rising trend of robbery suspects in Finland, particularly among individuals under the age of 15. The latest statistics from 2022 indicate a staggering 136% increase in the number of persons aged under 15 suspected of committing robberies compared to the previous year.

According to the report, there were a total of 269 individuals aged under 15 who were suspected of robberies, with boys accounting for a majority of the suspects at 252. These alarming figures shed light on a distressing trend where younger individuals are increasingly involved in criminal activities.

Furthermore, the data reveals that the most common victims of robberies committed by persons aged under 15 were boys between the ages of 12 and 14. This highlights the concerning dynamics and impact of such crimes on vulnerable individuals within the same age group.

While the overall number of suspects in solved robberies saw a 16.9% increase in 2022, with approximately 2,200 cases solved, the significant rise in juvenile involvement raises important questions about the factors contributing to this trend and the underlying societal issues at play.

Authorities and stakeholders are likely to pay close attention to these findings, as they emphasize the need for targeted interventions, prevention programs, and support systems to address the root causes behind the surge in juvenile criminal activity.
