Finland Witnesses Significant Migration Trends: Immigrants and Emigrants Fluctuate by Year and Gender

In a comprehensive analysis of migration patterns in Finland, new data has shed light on the influx and outflow of people in the country. According to the latest figures from Statistics Finland, the number of immigrants, emigrants, and intermunicipal and intramunicipal migrants has been fluctuating over the years, revealing intriguing insights into Finland’s evolving demographic landscape.

The data indicates that in 2022, a total of 49,998 individuals immigrated to Finland, while 15,635 people chose to emigrate from the country. Moreover, intermunicipal migration recorded a total of 295,710 instances, while intramunicipal migration accounted for 574,982 occurrences. These figures exemplify the dynamic nature of population movements within Finland.

Examining the data by gender, it becomes apparent that males and females have experienced distinct migration patterns. Among males, 27,141 individuals immigrated to Finland, with 7,888 opting to emigrate. Inter-municipal migration among males reached 145,028 cases, while intramunicipal migration amounted to 280,484 instances. On the other hand, females accounted for 22,857 immigrations, 7,747 emigrations, 150,682 intermunicipal migrations, and 294,498 intramunicipal migrations.

Further analysis of the quarterly breakdown of migration reveals intriguing trends. In the first quarter of 2022, 9,454 individuals chose Finland as their new home, while 3,463 decided to leave the country. Intermunicipal and intramunicipal migration during this period were recorded at 59,659 and 134,501 instances, respectively.

The second quarter witnessed an increase in immigration and emigration, with 10,658 people choosing to immigrate to Finland and 3,283 individuals leaving the country. Inter-municipal and intramunicipal migration figures for this period stood at 71,315 and 144,204, respectively.

The third quarter showcased the highest number of immigrants, with 16,080 individuals arriving in Finland. Simultaneously, 5,279 individuals chose to emigrate. Inter-municipal and intramunicipal migration during this period amounted to 100,862 and 153,499 occurrences, respectively.

In the fourth quarter, 13,806 individuals immigrated to Finland, while 3,610 individuals emigrated. Inter-municipal and intramunicipal migration figures for this period were 63,874 and 142,778, respectively.

The data demonstrates the complex nature of migration, influenced by various factors such as economic conditions, employment opportunities, family reunification, and personal circumstances.
