Norway’s Travel Industry Sees a 23% Surge in Trips in the 1st Quarter of 2023

The latest travel survey data from Norway reveals a significant increase in travel activities during the first quarter of 2023. According to the survey, there was a remarkable 23% surge in the number of trips compared to the same period in the previous year. These findings were released by the Norwegian Tourism Board.

The travel survey highlights various key indicators of the industry’s performance. The number of tourists reached 2.55 million in the first quarter of 2023, indicating a substantial growth of 14.9% compared to the same period in 2022. Additionally, guest nights, which represent the number of nights spent by tourists, recorded a notable increase of 20.3%, totaling 24.15 million nights.

One of the most significant developments was the growth in tourist expenditure. In the first quarter of 2023, tourist spending reached a staggering 40.65 billion Norwegian Krone (NOK), marking an impressive surge of 80.9% compared to the previous year. This surge in expenditure reflects the increased economic activity generated by the thriving travel industry in Norway.

The surge in trips, tourists, guest nights, and expenditure can be attributed to a variety of factors, including improved travel accessibility, attractive destinations, and positive consumer sentiment. Norway’s unique natural landscapes, cultural heritage, and outdoor activities continue to draw visitors from around the world.

The next update of the travel survey is scheduled for 25 August 2023. This regular release of data enables policymakers, businesses, and stakeholders in the tourism industry to gain insights into the sector’s performance and make informed decisions.
