In late May 2023, the market prices of important means of production in China experienced mixed trends, according to the monitoring conducted by the National Bureau of Statistics. Out of the 50 monitored products across nine categories, 18% witnessed price increases, while 80% saw price decreases, and 2% remained unchanged compared to mid-May 2023.
Among the categories, the ferrous metal sector displayed varied price movements. Rebar (Φ20mm, HRB400E) experienced a significant decrease of 2.6%, reaching 3602.2 yuan per ton. Wire (Φ8-10mm, HPB300) also dropped by 2.4% to 3773.0 yuan per ton. Ordinary Medium Plate (20mm, Q235) and Ordinary Hot-Rolled Sheet (4.75-11.5mm, Q235) both declined by 2.1% to 4068.5 yuan per ton and 3783.8 yuan per ton, respectively. However, Angle Steel (5#) encountered a notable decrease of 2.9%, reaching 3867.0 yuan per ton.
In the nonferrous metals sector, the prices displayed mixed movements. Electrolytic Copper (1#) witnessed a slight decrease of 0.6% to 64911.4 yuan per ton, while Aluminum Ingot (A00) dropped by 0.2% to 18250.0 yuan per ton. Lead Ingot (1#) increased by 0.1% to 15114.3 yuan per ton. However, Zinc Ingot (0#) experienced a significant decline of 5.4% to 19885.7 yuan per ton.
Chemical products also exhibited varying price changes. Sulfuric Acid (98%) dropped by 4.0% to 157.3 yuan per ton, while Caustic Soda (Liquid Caustic Soda, 32%) increased by 1.6% to 851.1 yuan per ton. Methyl Alcohol (Superior Quality) witnessed a substantial decrease of 6.2% to 2130.8 yuan per ton. Pure Benzene (Petroleum Benzene, Industrial Grade) declined by 1.5% to 6599.3 yuan per ton, and Styrene (First Grade) decreased by 1.2% to 7811.0 yuan per ton. Polyethylene (LLDPE, Melt Index 2 Film Material) dropped by 1.9% to 7895.0 yuan per ton, while Polypropylene (Wire Drawing Material) experienced a significant decrease of 2.8% to 7065.7 yuan per ton. Polyvinyl Chloride (SG5) declined by 2.3% to 5679.0 yuan per ton, and Butadiene Rubber (BR9000) dropped by 4.4% to 10272.6 yuan per ton. Polyester Filament (POY150D/48F) saw a slight increase of 0.1% to 7346.4 yuan per ton.
