China’s Market Prices of Important Means of Production Show Mixed Trends in June 2023

The National Bureau of Statistics of China and the China Economic Monitoring and Analysis Center have released the latest data on market prices of important means of production in circulation for the period of June 21-30, 2023. The report highlights the changes in prices for 50 kinds of important means of production across 9 categories.

During the late June period, the prices of 19 out of the 50 monitored products increased, while 25 products experienced price decreases. The remaining 6 products maintained the same price level compared to mid-June.

In the category of Ferrous Metal, notable price changes were observed. Rebar (Φ20mm, HRB400E) experienced a decrease of 37.9 yuan per ton, while Wire (Φ8-10mm, HPB300) saw a decrease of 28.0 yuan per ton. Ordinary Medium Plate (20mm, Q235) decreased by 16.7 yuan per ton, and Ordinary Hot-Rolled Sheet (4.75-11.5mm, Q235) decreased by 18.9 yuan per ton. However, Seamless Steel Pipe (219*6, 20#) remained relatively stable with a slight decrease of 2.1 yuan per ton.

In the Nonferrous Metals category, Electrolytic Copper (1#) saw a significant increase of 483.8 yuan per ton, while Aluminum Ingot (A00) experienced a decrease of 19.7 yuan per ton. Lead Ingot (1#) increased by 108.3 yuan per ton, and Zinc Ingot (0#) decreased by 3.0 yuan per ton.

The Chemical Product category also displayed varied price movements. Sulfuric Acid (98%) increased slightly by 0.1 yuan per ton, whereas Caustic Soda (Liquid Caustic Soda, 32%) decreased by 62.4 yuan per ton. Methyl Alcohol (Superior Quality) saw an increase of 43.6 yuan per ton, and Pure Benzene (Petroleum Benzene, Industrial Grade) decreased by 29.0 yuan per ton. Styrene (First Grade) experienced a significant decrease of 217.5 yuan per ton.

In the Petroleum and Gas category, Liquefied Natural Gas saw a notable increase of 172.2 yuan per ton, while Liquefied Petroleum Gas decreased by 18.7 yuan per ton. Gasoline (95#, National VI Emission Standard) and Gasoline (92#, National VI Emission Standard) both experienced decreases, with 44.0 yuan and 39.9 yuan per ton respectively. Diesel Oil (0#, National VI Emission Standard) decreased by 133.5 yuan per ton.

Among the Agricultural Products, Rice (Japonica Rice) saw an increase of 29.9 yuan per ton, Wheat (Third-Class of National Standard) increased by 15.4 yuan per ton, and Corn (Second-Class of Yellow Corn) experienced an increase of 53.2 yuan per ton. However, Cotton (Ginned Cotton, Third-Class of White Cotton) decreased by 313.5 yuan per ton.

The data also revealed price changes in other categories, including Coal, Nonmetallic Building Materials, Agricultural Means of Production, and Forest Products.

It is important to note that the market prices of important means of production in circulation represent wholesale and sale prices, including producer price, circulation expenses, profits, and taxes of the enterprises involved. The trends of producer price and market price may not be exactly the same due to time-lag effects.

The monitoring coverage forthis report includes nearly 2,000 wholesalers, agents, and dealers from more than 300 trading markets across 31 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities.

The market prices of important means of production in circulation play a crucial role in understanding the overall economic situation. These prices are monitored using various methods, including gathering prices on-site, through telephone inquiries, instant messaging tools, and email.
