Treasury Department Announces Andrea Gacki as New FinCEN Director

Secretary of the Treasury, Janet L. Yellen, has named Andrea Gacki as the new Director of the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) at the Treasury Department.

Currently serving as the Director of the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) at the Treasury Department, Gacki has played a crucial role in implementing and enforcing economic sanctions during national security challenges. Her expertise in terrorism and financial intelligence, including her knowledge of FinCEN, positions her well to combat illicit finance threats.

In her new role, Gacki expressed her honor and excitement to lead FinCEN, recognizing its vital role in safeguarding the U.S. financial system. She is eager to continue FinCEN’s efforts in implementing the Anti-Money Laundering Act of 2020, including the Corporate Transparency Act.

Under Secretary Brian Nelson praised Gacki as an exceptional and widely respected leader, confident that she will excel in this critical time for FinCEN. Her experience in national security initiatives for the Treasury Department and the broader U.S. Government will be valuable assets to FinCEN and the Terrorism and Financial Intelligence (TFI) unit.

During the transition period, Acting FinCEN Director Himamauli “Him” Das will continue in his role and support Gacki in her onboarding process. Secretary Nelson expressed appreciation for Das’ dedication and leadership during his tenure, acknowledging his achievements in implementing the Corporate Transparency Act.

Andrea Gacki has served in various senior leadership positions at OFAC, including Deputy Director, Associate Director for Compliance and Enforcement, and Assistant Director for Licensing. Prior to her work at OFAC, she was a trial attorney at the U.S. Department of Justice and began her career as an associate at an international law firm. Gacki holds undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Michigan.

FinCEN’s mission is to safeguard the financial system from illicit use, combat money laundering, including terrorist financing, and enhance national security through the strategic use of financial authorities and the collection, analysis, and dissemination of financial intelligence.
