Joint Declaration by President Emmanuel Macron and President Gabriel Boric for Strengthening France-Chile Relations

This Friday, President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron, welcomed President of the Republic of Chile, Gabriel Boric, for a working lunch at the Elysée Palace. This meeting took place a few days after their participation in the Summit of the European Union and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (EU-CELAC) held in Brussels.

During their meeting, the two heads of state discussed the strengthening of bilateral relations between France and Chile, particularly in key areas such as hydrogen, critical metals, and artificial intelligence. They expressed their shared commitment to enhancing cooperation between the two countries in these strategic sectors.

President Macron and President Boric also addressed various international crises discussed at the EU/CELAC Summit, including the situation in Ukraine, as well as the political and humanitarian situation in Venezuela and Haiti. They expressed their common concern regarding these global challenges and emphasized the importance of strengthened international cooperation to address them.

Furthermore, the two presidents discussed global issues on which they share common ground, including the protection of oceans in the lead-up to the United Nations Conference on the Oceans in 2024, as well as forest conservation and efforts to mitigate climate change ahead of COP 28, for which both France and Chile are fully committed.
