According to the latest report by the Spanish National Statistics Institute (INE), the number of tourist stays in non-hotel accommodations decreased by 3.0% in June 2023 compared to the same month in 2022. However, the total number of overnight stays since January has grown by 9.1% and is 7.4% higher than the same period in 2019.

June 2023 Statistics for Tourist Apartments:

  • Overnight Stays: 6,366,517
  • Variation in Overnight Stays: -5.19%
  • Average Length of Stay in Days: 4.80
  • Variation in Average Length of Stay: -2.09%
  • Occupancy Rate per Unit: 35.11%
  • Variation in Occupancy Rate per Unit: -8.07%
  • Apartment Prices Index: 175.43
  • Variation in Apartment Prices: 9.33% (compared to the previous year)

The report shows that although there was a decline in tourist stays in June 2023, the overall performance of non-hotel accommodations has been positive, with significant growth since January. The average length of stay also experienced a slight decrease, and the occupancy rate per unit declined notably.

The increase in apartment prices by 9.33% compared to the previous year may have contributed to the decline in the occupancy rate. Nevertheless, Spain’s tourism industry remains resilient, and the total number of overnight stays continues to surpass pre-pandemic levels.

The Spanish authorities and tourism stakeholders are closely monitoring the situation and implementing strategies to support the recovery of the tourism sector, ensuring its sustainability and competitiveness in the global market.
