France’s Employment Market Bounces Back Strongly in 2021 with 965,000 New Jobs Created

According to the Department of Employment and Income from Activity (Insee), employment in France has strongly recovered in 2021, surpassing its pre-crisis level at the end of 2019. The proportion of part-time work and underemployment has also decreased significantly, and the skill level of jobs has increased. Unemployment and its halo have decreased by 0.8 percentage points, with the activity rate reaching its highest level since 1975. However, the increase in wages has been largely mitigated by inflation, and hourly labor costs remained stagnant in 2021.
