European Union leads in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and doubling renewable energy deployment in 2022, says President von der Leyen at Leaders’ Summit on offshore wind in the North Sea.

President von der Leyen praised the progress made towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the European Union and the significant boost to renewable energy production during the recent energy crisis triggered by the Russian war. She welcomed the Ostend Declaration, which doubles down on offshore wind production targets, and highlighted the European Commission’s initiatives to support the clean tech industry, incentivize the use of renewables, and secure the supply of critical raw materials. She also emphasized the importance of renewable hydrogen, which has the potential to become a game changer for Europe, and invited countries to work on cross-border hydrogen projects while creating a European hydrogen market through the Hydrogen Bank.
