Production and Use of Milk in Denmark from December 2022 to March 2023

The latest figures released by the Danish Agriculture and Food Council reveal a mixed picture of the production and use of milk in Denmark for the period December 2022 to March 2023.

According to the data, the total amount of milk produced from farms during this period was 474.13m kg, which increased to 488.68m kg in January 2023, then decreased to 448.78m kg in February 2023, and increased again to 494.85m kg in March 2023.

The amount of delivered milk to dairies also followed a similar pattern, reaching 467.69m kg in December 2022, increasing to 482.24m kg in January 2023, decreasing to 442.34m kg in February 2023, and then increasing again to 488.41m kg in March 2023.

Organic milk production saw an increase from 60.00m kg in December 2022 to 61.80m kg in January 2023, before decreasing to 56.00m kg in February 2023 and increasing again to 60.50m kg in March 2023.

The average fat content of delivered milk to dairies was 4.57 percent in December 2022, which decreased to 4.45 percent in January 2023 and remained relatively stable at 4.46 percent in February 2023 and 4.44 percent in March 2023. Similarly, the average protein content of delivered milk to dairies was 3.76 percent in December 2022, decreasing to 3.68 percent in January 2023, remaining stable at 3.68 percent in February 2023, and increasing slightly to 3.70 percent in March 2023.

In terms of pricing, milk ex farm sold for a total of DKK 2,321.17 million in December 2022, which decreased to DKK 2,303.19 million in January 2023, then decreased further to DKK 2,010.28 million in February 2023, before increasing again to DKK 2,062.70 million in March 2023.

The production of butter saw an increase from 8.50m kg in December 2022 to 10.00m kg in January 2023 before decreasing to 9.00m kg in February 2023 and remaining stable at 8.50m kg in March 2023.

Cheese production also remained stable at 41.00m kg in December 2022 and January 2023, decreased to 37.00m kg in February 2023, before increasing again to 42.00m kg in March 2023.

Preserved milk production saw a slight decrease from 7.70m kg in December 2022 to 7.50m kg in January 2023, then decreased further to 6.60m kg in February 2023, before increasing again to 7.30m kg in March 2023.

The production of cream milk powder, whole milk powder, and partly skimmed powder saw a slight decrease from 4.10m kg in December 2022 to 3.80m kg in February 2023, before increasing again to 4.40m kg in March 2023.
