Chancellor Scholz to Attend Second North Sea Summit to Boost Renewable Energy Production

Chancellor Scholz is scheduled to attend the second North Sea Summit in Ostend, Belgium on April 24, 2023. The meeting will be hosted by Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo and will be attended by heads of government of Denmark, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, and the President of the EU Commission, as well as heads of state and government of France, Ireland, Luxembourg, and Norway. The summit aims to accelerate the production of wind energy and hydrogen in the North Sea, and to exchange information on progress made since the last meeting in Denmark in May 2022.

During the summit, Chancellor Scholz will visit an offshore supply ship called “Connector” with the other participants, followed by a press meeting and the signing of a joint summit declaration. After that, the actual summit meeting will take place, followed by a working dinner in the evening.

Other attendees include Federal Minister Robert Habeck, his respective counterparts, and the EU Commissioner for Energy, Kadri Simson. The North Sea Summit is an important platform for the North Sea countries to cooperate on renewable energy, with the North Sea holding great potential for wind and hydrogen energy production.
