Retail turnover in Germany saw a decline of 2.4% in real terms and 1.3% in nominal terms in March 2023 compared to the previous month. Compared to March 2022, there was an 8.6% decline in real turnover and a 0.2% decline in nominal turnover. Food retailing experienced its largest year-on-year decline in turnover since 1994. The difference in real and nominal turnover reflects the significant price increases in retail trade. Compared to March 2019, retail turnover in real terms decreased by 1.3%.
