Tourism in Germany Continues Recovery in March 2023 with 26.5% More Overnight Stays Than Previous Year, But Still Below Pre-Pandemic Levels

According to the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), accommodation establishments in Germany recorded 31.8 million overnight stays of visitors from Germany and abroad in March 2023. This marks a 26.5% increase compared to the same month in the previous year, which was still heavily affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

However, the number of overnight stays in March 2023 was still 3.7% lower than in March 2019, the corresponding month before the pandemic. Despite the increase in tourism, the industry has yet to fully recover to pre-pandemic levels.

The pandemic has had a significant impact on the tourism industry in Germany, with travel restrictions and lockdowns resulting in a sharp decline in the number of visitors. The increase in overnight stays in March 2023 suggests that the industry is slowly recovering, although it may take some time to reach pre-pandemic levels.
